10/17 Torture Act counter-signing ceremony at the White House

The MPG NSP chapter shares this update from the Washington Region Religious Campaign Against Torture

The Washington Region Religious Campaign Against Torture is sponsoring a counter-signing ceremony at the White House (side facing Lafayette Park) on Tuesday, October 17th at 9:00 A.M. The President will be holding a signing ceremony for the Military Commissions Act inside the White House at 9:35 A.M. We will have several speakers, a coffin representing the death of some of our most cherished values,and a large People's Signing Statement which says that we reject the Military Commissions Act which we will invite everyone to sign. We will also have banners and signs. Many of us will be dressing in black. The tone will be mournful and funereal. Organizations assisting/cosponsoring include the National Religious Campaign Against Torture,Peace Action Montgomery, the Torture Abolition and Survivors Coalition International, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and Rabbis for Human Rights.
